Creation is expression: Crafting in Fantorob

In previous devlogs, we've talked about how the traditional monster game system traps the player in a routine of luck and repetition.

The feeling of progress is there, but it's impersonal. There's no human signature to that growth.

In Fantorob, we've turned this paradigm on its head. Here, every advance is a decision. Every piece installed, every choice made, every combination tested is a mark of the player's journey. Nothing is left to chance. And that's what makes the crafting system the true heart of the game.

The core of creation

In the world of Fantorob, you don't capture ready-made creatures. You build them.

Each robot is born from parts that the player finds, manufactures or conquers throughout the adventure. These parts are circuit boards, memory units, processors, chassis and sensors. They are all more than just status items. They are fragments of your story.

An attack module may have been earned after a hard-fought victory. A new suit of armor, forged with rare resources from a remote dungeon. A special CPU, assembled from plans discovered in a forgotten tower.

Each component is a memory. Each upgrade, a scar of progress

Evolution as a reflection of the journey

Instead of evolving by level or happiness, your companions evolve by their own understanding of the game. You decide how to improve performance:

  • Want to prioritize speed? Install more RAM units.
  • Want solid defense? Increase the size of the HDD.
  • Prefer hybrid strategies? Mix different parts.

The sum of these choices creates a unique robot, a reflection of your mentality as a player. Most importantly, there is no "perfect" combination. There are paths. And each path tells a different story.

Back to the beginning, but never the same

Fantorob was designed with a structure that values meaningful repetition. With each run, the player discovers new combinations, unlocks technologies and learns to better deal with the limitations of the design itself.

The result is a gameplay cycle that rewards experimentation and where the player sees themselves evolving, not just their team.

It's not about "having the best robot". It's about building the robot that speaks for you

Crafting as expression

Crafting is more than a progression system, it's a form of expression.

Our aim with Fantorob's crafting system is to turn the relationship between player and creature into a kind of dialog.

You're not just programming statistics. You're leaving traces, like an engineer writing his story in metal and silicon.

In the next devlog, we'll talk about the launch and how you can secure your copy of Fantorob at a pre-order discount.
