The Cruel Reality of Breeding in Pokemon

Every Pokémon player, at some point, has dreamed of having the "perfect companion". That little monster that represents who you are: your fighting style, your philosophy, your signature on the battlefield.
But when you start getting into the breeding system, EV training, IVs, and natures, reality hits like a bucket of cold water.
What was once an emotional relationship becomes a spreadsheet. You're no longer creating. You're trying to beat the odds.
The frustration of chance
The upgrade system in Pokémon is based on chance. Want a little monster with a high attack IV and a nature that increases speed? Get ready for:
- Hours of random crossbreeding;
- Monotonous repetitions;
- And, in the end, a result that may or may not reflect what you wanted.
The experience stops being about the trainer and his bond and becomes about hidden statistics.
You don't feel like an engineer or an artist. You feel like a gambler.
"Will the egg come with the perfect IVs this time?"
With each failed attempt, the player gets a little further away from what the game promised at the start: the feeling of growing together with your companions.
A system that doesn't talk about the player
When you finally get the "ideal Pokémon", there's nothing in it that tells a story about the trainer. No details, no scars, no meaningful choices.
The little monster is just an optimized number for thousands of other players. And, in a way, that kills the magic.
Creative, strategic, and sentimental players end up feeling an identity gap:
- "What does this team say about me?"
- "Why is my experience the same as everyone else's?"
- "Where is my mark in this world?"
This is the silent pain of those who love monster taming games: the desire for authorship.
The desire for control
This discomfort is what opens up space for new ideas. Ideas that swap chance for ingenuity. That transforms the quest for status into a journey of personal expression.
And this is exactly where Fantorob shines: a world where monsters are not found, but built, where each piece carries a choice. Where performance comes not from luck, but from the player's decisions.
But that's for the next devlog! Follow up to be notified when we explain our Fantorob Crafting system.
